Celtic have lost out on Jens Berthel Askou, who was on the Hoops' shortlist to be their next manager. Everything is in place for the Danish coach to complete a move to France, where he will manage Toulouse in Ligue 1.

It is a massive blow for the Celts as they will now need to look elsewhere. Berthel Askou did a fantastic job at Motherwell this season, turning them into a really competitive side and securing them UEFA Conference League football with a fourth-place finish. He managed to get one over on sides like Celtic, Rangers and Hearts over the course of the campaign, and now, it's gutting that he is off to Europe instead of Parkhead.

His reputation in the game is clearly growing, with him getting a chance in a top-five European league, and even if the Hoops snatched him up, he likely would've been on the move again a year or two down the line.

Berthel Askou was praised by Toulouse for 'overperforming' during his time at the Well, and that is true. We don't know how well he would've done at Celtic, and now, it'll only ever be a 'what if'.

Celtic could step up move for Robbie Keane

With one target gone, Celtic could move all of their attention to Robbie Keane, who, according to an STV journalist, could be on his way to the Hoops. In March, the sporting director of his current club, Ferencvaros, said that he wouldn't stand in Keane's way should he wish to leave, so it could be easy to get it over the line.

Fans are already torn over his potential appointment though. Ferencvaros just lost out on the league title in Hungary by one point, despite winning the most games out of any team, so you can understand why some supporters would rather have a guaranteed winner in the dugout. Of course, you never know what could happen, and as he is the favourite, if he does get appointed, we would simply have to wait and see how he does.

There are other names being floated, with some suggesting that Martin O'Neill could stay at Celtic for another season. He has never outright shut down the idea of remaining in the dugout, and we certainly won't have any confirmation until after Saturday's Scottish Cup final, which will see the 74-year-old go head-to-head with his former player, Neil Lennon.

Roberto Martinez, Thomas Frank, and Craig Bellamy are also reportedly being considered for the job.
