There are many reasons why Celtic are so far ahead of the Rangers, both on the pitch and off it. Most will prove very difficult for any new investors at Ibrox to catch up on, especially in a short time. One of the significant differences comes in the form of smart transfer tactics by the Hoops as they move players out.
There are a few Celtic flops currently where transfers are looking likely to enhance the summer budget for the club. Luis Palma and Gustaf Lagerbielke, to name a couple of such players.
Earlier this year, we saw a deal struck for the permanent exit of Alexandro Bernabei to Brazilian side Internacional. Just months later, it could bring in a second windfall for Celtic.
Parting with the left-back made great sense as he’d been away on loan in Brazil and made a great impact there. Whereas Bernabei in Glasgow was slipping further away from the first-team, especially so after the arrival of Brendan Rodgers. So, securing a fee of €5.5 million for the transfer was pretty good business.
La Liga club ready to hand unexpected cash boost to Celtic
But that’s not where it ends as far as the Argentinian, Celtic, and transfer fees are concerned. The club has always been able to strike good deals and secure lucrative sell-on clauses, too. As reported by the Daily Record, that appears to be the case for Bernabei’s move as well.
Sevilla want to rebuild for next season and the Spanish La Liga club have targeted Bernabei. They are set to swoop when the transfer window reopens in July. On the other hand, SC Internacional are having to make significant financial cutbacks after posting a £6 million loss last month and are looking to part ways with some of their star men.
This in turn could mean a decent bonus for Celtic in the summer if the deal goes through. It’s that sort of financial strategy and negotiation that helps underpin the future. One that the Rangers currently do not seem to have in place. And until they do, it is hard to imagine that they can catch up with the Scottish champions anytime soon.
