It would be safe to say that Celtic fans are not too fond of Kris Boyd. But in recent times, with the Rangers struggling, he has certainly made some interesting arguments that even the Parkhead supporters agree with. He has now come out with another of those ahead of the Ibrox club's impending takeover by an American consortium that involves the San Francisco 49ers.

The Rangers fans seem to be hoping that added investment would magically close down the gap with Celtic. Reality may not be as simple though. After all, it is not like they have not spent money in recent years.

In reality, there has not been a major gap when it comes to the expenditure of the two clubs. It is just that Celtic have been posting record profits every season while the Rangers continue to mount up losses.

So, even if the 49ers come in, it is hard to see how much extra they would shell out in terms of transfers. It looks like Boyd sees that as well.

Boyd wrote in his column in The Scottish Sun (via Glasgow World):

"The claim that Rangers haven't spent money is a total myth. In fact, one thing the outgoing board can't be accused of is not backing managers."

Boyd further went on to point out the issue with the Rangers, as he wrote:

"Too often, Rangers have spent money on the wrong players. That has to change this summer."

It remains to be seen if that does change with the arrival of Kevin Thelwell as their sporting director. He has worked at clubs like Everton and Wolves in the past. But it is not the same as the Rangers.

Firstly, he must have had a lot bigger budget available to him at those Premier League clubs. So, he will now be looking at a completely different pool of players to pick from. Secondly, the pressure is simple going to be different, especially with the expectations of the supporters sky high, thanks to the impending takeover of the club.
