It's not often that Celtic fans find themselves agreeing with Rangers man Kris Boyd, but after he revealed his thoughts on two particular Hoops players, it's hard to argue against him.
It was a defeat for Celtic again on Sunday as they lost 2-0 to Dundee United at Tannadice after a horrific team performance. Just when supporters were getting excited about being in the title race, it now appears Celtic has fallen away in the final stages.
After the defeat, Hoops fans were understandably upset with a lot of players, but Boyd picked out two names from the pack. He said:
"They've spent money. They've spent on wingers. They've just not been good enough. I mean some of them... Balikwisha, where is he? Seriously, where is he?
It's a good job they didn't spend money, because some of the players that have come in. Look at the guy who came on at Ibrox, [Joel] Mvuka. They wanted to spend £4/5million on him? Wow.
They're probably lucky he failed a medical, and he's only on loan. If they committed another £4/5million on him as well. Celtic have spent money but the signings have been terrible"
Celtic need to let the flops leave
There's only one option for Celtic when it comes to these two - the club need to move on. Balikwisha is yet to score a single goal for the Celts, only registering two assists in 14 appearances. For Mvuka, he hasn't even made a Scottish Premiership appearance yet. His only two cameos for the club came in the Scottish Cup wins over Dundee and Rangers, and fans have already seen enough.
Balikwisha was signed from Royal Antwerp in the summer of 2025 for a fee of £5 million, and his debut season has been nothing short of terrible. He has often been described as looking "intimidated" in a Celtic shirt, and it's clear that he simply was not worth the money.
Mvuka was almost signed permanently on deadline day, but he failed his medical at the last minute. The transfer almost fell through, but he was eventually brought to the club on loan, with an option to buy. This is now seeming like a great thing for the Hoops, with him also failing to hit the heights that we expected.
Hopefully, the transfers made in the summer will be much better. There needs to be a complete rebuild at the club under a new manager, that much is clear, but whether it will actually end up happening is a different question.
