Jamie Vardy has announced that he will be leaving Leicester City this summer, bringing an end to a legendary run with the Foxes. But at the same time, the Englishman also made it clear that he was not retiring from the game and would continue playing. Naturally, there have been questions about where he will end up next. Could a reunion with Brendan Rodgers at Celtic be on the cards for the Premier League icon?
Vardy and Rodgers enjoyed a ton of success together while at Leicester City. According to stats from Transfermakt, he scored 70 goals and provided 25 assists in 157 appearances during that time. The Foxes exceeded expectations, winning the FA Cup and the Community Shield, while also making it to Europe on more than one occasion.
Naturally, it should not come as a surprise that plenty of Celtic fans would like to see Vardy at Parkhead. In fact, we are running a poll at the moment and it is pretty much half and half.
This is not the first time that he has been linked with a move to Celtic either. Then again, there are those who feel that Vardy is no longer capable of delivering at this level of the game. One wrote on X:
Why do I keep seeing Celtic fans wanting Jamie Vardy?π

He is 39 next season and he is so far past it.
Could you imagine us trying to press with him up topπ
Used to be brilliant, absolutely no thanks now
Jamie Vardy to Celtic claim made after announcement
Let's see what the future holds for Vardy. There is no doubt that he is well past his prime. He is 38 years of age after all.
That being said, it does not mean that he does not know his way to the back of the net. He does. He has scored 7 goals this season in the Premier League, and for a team like Leicester City, which is about to be relegated. Realistically, how many of Celtic's summer transfer targets would score that many in the English top division? Odsonne Edouard has managed it once in four seasons and everybody would welcome him back with open arms.
Last season, Vardy managed to score 18 goals in the Championship and 20 across all competitions. A lot of people might be looking just at the age column rather than seeing the quality that he still has. Even at 38, Vardy could probably do a decent job for Celtic, especially as a third option.
A short-term deal for Vardy probably would not be the worst idea in the world, not just for his goalscoring ability but his experience as well. That being said, it is a lot more likely he will end up leaving European football altogether. A move to the MLS might be on the cards, or perhaps one to the Saudi Pro League. But if Celtic do have a chance of bringing him to Parkhead, they should not overlook it.
