If Celtic are intent on sticking with Wilfried Nancy despite his horror start to life in Glasgow, then they must be ready to back him in the upcoming January transfer window. The Frenchman has put all his eggs in the same basket by adamantly continuing to play a system for which he does have the right personnel at the moment.
The only way to bring that would be to add fresh faces to the squad in January. Of course, there would be those who argue that it is already clear that Nancy is not good enough, and it would be pointless, and perhaps counterproductive in the long run, to back him in the winter transfer window.
Anyways, one area where Celtic need to strengthen is centre-back. Nancy has used the likes of Kieran Tierney and Anthony Ralston as part of the back three.
67 Hail Hail have recently come up with a list of three centre-back signings that could bring Nancy’s 3-4-3 formation to life at Celtic. One of the names mentioned is that of Christos Alexiou of Inter Milan.
Inter Milan centre-back tipped to join Celtic in January
Alexiou is 20 years of age and has come through the youth ranks at Inter Milan. He is not established at the senior level for the Italian giants though. Internationally, he has represented Greece at a variety of levels so far.
Of course, it would not be right to think that someone like Alexiou could come in and become a regular starter for Celtic immediately. He could be a solid rotational option to have around though with long-term potential.
It remains to be seen if the club do end up making a move for him or not. But if you are Celtic, this could be an option worth considering in the future.
