It was back in 2007 that Celtic shelled out a £4.4 million fee to sign Scott Brown from Hibernian. To this day, that is the record transfer between two Scottish clubs. That is pretty remarkable when you consider how much has changed since then and how inflated the market has become over the past couple of decades or so.

The world transfer record in 2007 was Zinedine Zidane's €77 million move to Real Madrid. In 2025, that stands at €222 million, the sum PSG paid to sign Neymar from FC Barcelona. It is safe to say that Scottish clubs have not exactly caught up with football finances.

Celtic will need to break the Scottish transfer record to sign Lennon Miller from Motherwell this summer. It is believed that a bid in the region of £5 million would be needed to convince the Steelmen to part ways.

Of course, that is a figure within Celtic's reach. That being said, there is also a belief that Miller prefers a move abroad. And there is no lack of interest in him either.

'Improved offer' - Major news on Celtic target Lennon Miller

As reported by The Scottish Sun, Udinese had a £2.5m bid for Miller rejected in January. The Italian club are ready to try again with an improved offer and are leading the race for the Motherwell midfielder.

Miller's name has been doing the rounds of the Celtic rumour mill for so long that it is easy to forget that he is still just 18 years of age. He is not only a consistent starter for Motherwell already but has even captained them on numerous occasions.

His output also saw a clear rise last season, as Miller scored 4 goals and provided 8 assists in 39 appearances. He did so while mostly playing as a central or defensive midfielder. So, those are impressive figures for sure and it is easy to see why he is so highly regarded in the Scottish footballing circles.

Celtic and Udinese are not the only two clubs trying to sign Miller either. Italian club Bologna are believed to be keen as well as Serie A has become a popular landing spot for rising Scottish talents in recent times. Other than that, German clubs are also said to be keeping an eye on the Motherwell midfielder who looks set to leave this summer, although his next destination remains unclear.
