You would almost think that Steven Gerrard had gotten the Ibrox job already, judging by the reaction of a large portion of the Ibrox fans. Various outlets have even suggested that an agreement in principle is already in place, with the finer details in need of sorting out. But now, there is a twist in the Rangers manager race, and one that Celtic supporters will absolutely love.

It looks like Gerrard remains the frontrunner for now. But he is not the only option being considered. In fact, somebody else has impressed the Ibrox chiefs.

As reported by Sky Sports, Danny Rohl has also impressed Ibrox chiefs during the process. He remains in the race for the job.

Rohl has been out of a job since leaving Sheffield Wednesday, where he did a decent enough job considering the circumstances. It is the only role he has held in management so far though. In fact, it has also been claimed that he was sounded out by the Rangers in the summer before they had ended up appointing Russell Martin. So, the interest has not cropped up out of nowhere.

Rohl is another young manager who might struggle under the pressure of expectations at Ibrox. In short, Celtic fans would be delighted to see the Rangers maka an appointment like that.

As one Celtic fan wrote: "There you go, Rohl has impressed, meaning he’ll be cheaper and not require £20m for new players."

Of course, there are no points for guessing how the Rangers supporters reacted to the news. One said: "Russell Martin impressed Ibrox officials. Get Gerrard in and end this."

It remains to be seen how things will go out. If you ask us, it is still likely that it will be Gerrard who ends up getting the job. But the noise around Rohl is starting to get louder for sure.

Yesterday, he was presented as another option the Rangers had on the radar. Today, he is mentioned as someone who has impressed the chiefs and is in the race. One has to wonder where this is headed.

To be fair to Rohl, he actually did a decent job with Sheffield Wednesday. When he was appointed, the Owls were seven points adrift of safety. They finished 20th in the Championship that season, just avoiding relegation, and 12th in the following one. But it is very clear that the Rangers fans have decided that Gerrard is the only man for the job.
