Speculation arose earlier this morning that nobody would have been expecting. It has been suggested that Brendan Rodgers is keen on a reunion with Raheem Sterling by bringing the English winger to Celtic. He is completely out of plans at Chelsea and could do with a change of scenery. So, a move could make sense for all parties involved.
Enzo Maresca seems to be keen on parting ways with Sterling as well. That is why he is not longer even training with the first-team. A summer move was expected to go through but did not materialise in the end. That has left the Englishman in a tough spot with very little scope for football over the next four months at least.
On top of his game, Sterling was one of the best players in the world though. At his peak at Manchester City, many saw him as a Ballon d'Or contender for a while. And it is not hard to understand why Rodgers might want a reunion, considering how closely he worked with him at Liverpool.
Of course, a permanent move would not be possible. But a short-term loan could work out. As reported by FootballTransfers, Celtic are willing to contribute around £50,000 per week towards Sterling’s salary. If Chelsea cover the rest, it could make the move financially feasible.
How much Celtic are ready to pay to sign Raheem Sterling revealed
That is only a fraction of Sterling's salary. That being said, it would at least be a decent bit of money off of Chelsea's books for half of the season.
On top of that, the major thing would be the fact that Sterling would get to play some first-team football once again. After four months without any, it is hard to imagine that there would be too many clubs looking to sign him on a permanent basis. So, a loan is pretty much the best that Chelsea cn hope for.
Also, Sterling seems to be pretty particular about the club he wants to join next. There was no lack of interest this summer but he is believed to have turned down approaches. But perhaps the opportunity to work with Rodgers again could convince him to head up north to Glasgow.
