Celtic are about to sign Haissem Hassan from Real Oviedo, but his arrival will not be good news for everyone. Hassan has already passed his medical, and he is about to be announced as the newest Hoop, becoming the third new signing of the summer.
The Bhoys have been chasing Hassan for much of the summer, and they ultimately agreed a £9million deal with Oviedo. Celtic will pay £6million upfront with £3million in add-ons, and a significant chunk of those add-ons will be activated if Celtic qualify for the Champions League this month. Meanwhile, Hassan's former club Villarreal will receive 40% of the money.
Hassan's arrival is bad news for one Celtic star
One Celtic player who will not benefit from the arrival of Hassan is fellow new signing Camilo Duran. The Colombian has been playing out on the right wing so far, with the other new signing, Kasper Hogh playing as a central striker, and he won't be getting dropped any time soon after scoring four times last time out.
Duran is typically a striker, but he has played both league games on the right due to Martin O'Neill's system only requiring one central striker. Duran has done well there, but he doesn't look like a natural winger in certain phases of play.
The bad news for Duran now is that Hassan will almost certainly be a starter on the right, at least once he gets his feet under the table. With Hogh having the starting striker spot locked down, Duran is likely to drop to the bench.
The former Qarabag star will likely see plenty of action across the season, with rotation up top and on the wings likely amid the presence of European football. But he is now going to have to fight for a starting spot up front, and he is unlikely to get much luck out wide.
