Torino star Gvidas Gineitis has issued his verdict on his failed Celtic move, hinting that he would be interested in getting the deal done at some point.
The Bhoys were interested in Gineitis for much of the summer and appeared to view him as their ideal replacement for Arne Engels, who joined West Ham on an EFL-record £22million deal.
Engels left a sizable hole in the Celtic midfield, and it has shown over the last few weeks, with Martin O'Neill's men on a run of three straight defeats, and the midfield has a lot to do with it.
There have already been reports that Celtic will make a fresh move for Gineitis in the winter window, and it seems the player himself will be up for it, even though he has remained a regular for Torino after talks with Celtic broke down in the final hours leading up to the UEFA squad registration deadline.
Celtic decided not to meet the asking price set by Torino, but they may be forced to change their minds if the current midfield issues continue.
Speaking to 15min.lt, Gineitis has said of his failed move: "Whether you want to or not, you still think about it a little bit. You realise that maybe something could happen, that something is happening. But I’m glad that I always manage to focus on the club I’m with right now."
Asked about Celtic, the midfielder added: "It would be an interesting and rewarding experience, it would be interesting to test myself at that level, at a club like that. But for now, I’m where I am.
"If the club [Torino] wanted to sell me and another club wanted to buy me, the question would be what terms they’d offer me to play for that club.
"Of course, I would consider that option if it would help me and if I wanted to leave myself. Ultimately, it would all depend on my own decision anyway."
Celtic know they need a midfielder
Whether it is Gineitis or someone else, Celtic know they simply must sign a new midfielder in January. There is a complete lack of balance and legs, with Callum McGregor the only out and out pivot. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain can also fill in there, but there would be no legs when playing him with McGregor.
It is O'Neill's biggest personnel issue by some stretch, and it's one Celtic are going to have to accept paying to fix unless they get lucky in the loan market in January.
