The agent of a Celtic transfer target has confirmed interest from the Scottish giants in his client. The Bhoys still have transfer needs aplenty this summer, with Martin O'Neill's side nowhere near ready despite kicking off their new league campaign on Monday night.
Celtic have needs in multiple areas, and they will also likely lose Arne Engels, who started the game on Monday night, with the Belgian midfielder expected to be snapped up by a club down South.
Celtic need at least a couple of new midfielders, and we have already seen Paderborn star Mika Baur heavily linked. The Hoops are struggling to do deals this summer, though, and they are going to have to keep their options open.
Agent confirms Celtic interest in Gineitis
Torino midfielder Gvidas Gineitis was linked with Celtic early in the summer, and the player's agent,
Dmitry Vinokurov, has now confirmed the interest. He said: "Yes, people from Celtic have been in contact with me, but there was no offer yet.
"I appreciate their effort and am ready to cooperate, but I also have to keep working on other options for Gvidas. This information started with saying that there had been an offer before, and it was not good enough. That’s not true. Gvidas also appreciates the interest from such a big club and is ready to see the offer,"
Gineitis is a 22-year-old midfielder who stands at 6ft2". He is a Lithuanian international, already racking up 32 senior caps despite his youth. He has been in Italy since 2020, initially spending time with SPAL until landing his move to Turin in 2023. He has since made 76 league appearances,
The midfielder is left-footed and more of a physical player, and he is typically a box-to-box midfielder. Celtic need a couple of midfielders this summer, and it looks as though they want Baur to be the first in. It will be interesting to see if they advance with their interest for Gineitis, who is valued at €5.5million by Transfermarkt, which works out at £4.7million.
It remains to be seen how much Torino will ask for to sell this summer, but with the player's agent clearly open to offers, it seems as though a deal will be accessible this summer.
Celtic have the money in any case, likely to welcome £25million for Engels alone, while Daizen Maeda has been sold for £10million, and Reo Hatate will be sold for £8million.
