Former Celtic star Paul Lambert has issued his verdict on one of the club's sales during the summer transfer window. The Bhoys did plenty of business over the course of the long summer window, bringing in as many as 10 new signings.
The Hoops revamped their squad with new signings aplenty, and they also managed to raise some significant cash for some of their outgoings. Among them was Arne Engels, who became the most expensive EFL signing of all time when he joined West Ham for £22million, and Daizen Maeda joined Ipswich Town for £10million.
Reo Hatate joined Burnley for £6.5million in a late deal, and Celtic also managed to offload striker Johnny Kenny for around £3million, with the forward joining Preston North End despite attracting plenty of interest from Championship clubs.
Kenny did well on loan at Bolton Wanderers last season, scoring six times, but he unfortunately missed out on the League One playoffs, which Bolton ultimately won, due to injury.
Kenny returned to fitness over the summer and will have quickly recognised that he was too far down in the pecking order, with Celtic signing Kasper Hogh and Camilo Duran for big money, and Callum Osmand was already ahead of Kenny in the order.
A move always looked likely despite some comments from those at the club, and he eventually got his move, joining North End to return to the South.
"Johnny Kenny was never going to be a mainstay for Celtic," Bhoys hero Lambert told Boyle Sports.
"I don't think he was ever going to score 25 or 30 goals a season; that was never going to happen. Celtic getting a bit of money for him was a good bit of business. It makes sense."
At 23 years of age, Kenny needed more regular football to properly continue his development, and so the move will suit Celtic and the striker.
