Former Aston Villa star turned talkSPORT pundit Gabriel Agbonlahor believes some of Celtic's most senior players must step up to the plate to help Martin O'Neill.
The Bhoys have lost three straight games, including two Old Firm derbies with Rangers that saw them show little fight, even with a stadium without Rangers fans in the most recent game.
O'Neill is now coming under real pressure after struggling to find the answers to the ongoing issues, and he has hinted that he might leave if he determines he cannot fix the issues.
There is no doubt that Celtic have shortcomings in terms of personnel, now paying the price for not properly replacing Arne Engels in games against better teams. But it's also true that more needs to be done, and O'Neill cannot seem to find a system that protects his team from the weaknesses they have, and that is ultimately the job of a manager.
But according to pundit Agbonlahor, some of Celtic's more senior players simply have to step up.
“But I just look at the game on the weekend yesterday, and it was one-sided, yeah," he said on talkSPORT. "At Parkhead for Celtic to play Rangers and Rangers to dominate with no way fans in the stadium as well.
“Two games now, they put it on Celtics’ toes, yeah, and Celtic have had no response. The players have got to look at themselves as well. Leaders like Callum McGregor, Scales at the back, Carter-Vickers because they’ve got to up their game.”
Speaking about the pressure that is now building on O'Neill. Agbonlahor, who has previously worked with the veteran boss, added: "I felt sorry for Martin because when the fans are singing that about you, I don’t want him to ruin his legacy. He is a legend at the football club.”
