Where do we stand right now when it comes to the Wilfried Nancy to Celtic situation? Earlier, it had looked like a move was close and would be completed before the end of this international break. Yesterday, the club officially announced though that Martin O'Neill and Shaun Maloney will remain in interim charge of the team until their search for a permanent manager is complete. There would be no reason to do that if an appointment was close.

That has led to some speculation on social media that the talks with Nancy over a move to Celtic have collapsed. Is that accurate?

Well, not according to the French media. As reported by L'Equipe (via Daily Record), Nancy's stance on the job remains unchanged and he is "keen" on a switch to Celtic.

The waiting game might be due to Celtic having to work out a compensation package with Columbus Crew. Reports have suggested that the figure might be in the region of £2 million. That would be a tidy sum to pay, especially for a manager who would be viewed by most as a 'risky appointment'.

One thing is very clear though, just because there have been talks does not mean that an appointment is definitely going to happen. Just look at how things turned out for the Rangers in their attempts to hire Steven Gerrard, and then Kevin Muscat.

Something similar could happen when it comes to Nancy as well. And to be honest, a large section of the fanbase would not be disappointed if talks did end up falling through.

There are a lot of doubts about Nancy's ability to deal with the pressure at Celtic and deliver results. He has been a success story in the MLS but life as a manager in Glasgow is a whole different ball game.
