Finding a manager in the middle of the season is not an easy task. Celtic might be finding that out after Brendan Rodgers resigned from his post. It is not a situation that the Hoops have found themselves in often. And it remains to be seen what kind of an approach they take to solving this issue.
Some believe that Martin O'Neill and Shaun Maloney should continue as long as the right option does not become available. But that will depend on the results. The mood is high after the 4-0 win over Falkirk. But that could change if things don't go well against the Rangers at Hampden Park in the Scottish League Cup semi-final this weekend.
Some of the early favourites for the Celtic job no longer seem to be in the running. Ange Postecoglou is believed to be keen on taking some time away from the game after getting sacked twice, by Tottenham Hotspur and Nottingham Forest, within the space of a few months. Kieran McKenna and Craig Bellamy do not appear to be keen on leaving their current roles in the middle of the season.
As a result, we have seen other names crop up in the media over the last few years. Nicky Hayen and Kjetil Knutsen are two that the fans might like to see get the job. Robbie Keane has a winning track record as well, albeit at a lower level than those two. On the other hand, Damien Duff might not have the experience for it. And the same can be said about another name that has emerged as a contender recently.
French manager emerges as candidate for Celtic job out of nowhere
As reported by talkSPORT, Wilfried Nancy has emerged as a candidate for the Celtic managerial vacancy. The Frenchman is on the club’s list of options to replace Rodgers.
Most Celtic fans might not even know about Nancy and it is understandable. He had an unremarkable playing career. And his managerial success has come in the MLS.
He is currently the Columbus Crew manager. With them, he has won both the MLS Cup and the League Cups, and was named the Coach of the Year in 2024.
Nancy is highly rated for sure and has done a tremendous job at his current club. That being said, would that translate to Scottish football and the pressure situation that is managing Celtic?
