Rarely have players turned out for both Celtic and the Rangers, especially those who enjoyed success at one of those clubs beforehand. That does not come as a surprise either. There is not much that needs to be said about the rivalry that exists between the two clubs. But it looks like one player could cross that divide, if recent rumours are accurate.
Celtic's recruitment has been a problem for them in recent times. That was not the case when Ange Postecoglou was at the club though. In fact, even some squad players were good enough to earn £10 million moves elsewhere.
It would be a bit unfair to call Liel Abada just another 'squad' player though. Yes, he did spend a lot of time as an option to bring off the bench. But that did not stop him from having 51 goal contributions in 112 games for Celtic.
It was circumstances, more than anything else, that led to his move to Charlotte FC. There, he has been decent enough, although his output was better for the Hoops. Could a return to Glasgow be on the cards, albeit for the other side?
Former Celtic winger wanted by Rangers in audacious move
There does seem to be interest on the part of the Rangers if recent claims are accurate. As reported by the Daily Record, Tom Starr said:
"I was down in Charlotte for their 4-1 pasting at the hands of Montreal on Sunday night and former Celtic winger Liel Abada was merely a footnote as he came off the bench again. But I was talking to someone who would know and he reckons Rangers view Abada as a player who will make them better and he wouldn't rule out a return to Glasgow, but this time in the colours of the blue crew."
If such a move did end up happening, it would go down in the history books, for most of the wrong reasons. Of course, it is not hard to understand why the Rangers might be interested in someone like Abada.
He was proven in Scottish football and perhaps did not often get the credit that he deserved for his output. Also, remarkably, he is still just 23 years of age and should have plenty of football left in the tank.
Of course, Abada was a popular figure at Celtic for the most part. So, the fans would not want to see him make a switch to Ibrox, that is for sure.
