It is very clear that Celtic made a mistake letting a top-class player leave the club for a €3 million transfer fee.

Celtic have made some transfer mistakes during Brendan Rodgers' second run as the manager of the club, that is for sure. A large number of those have been about the club failing to bring in top targets or signing players who quite simply are not good enough. But then, there have also been occasions when they have allowed some quality talent to leave Parkhead for relatively insignificant fees.

Celtic are not in a good spot right now when it comes to their striker situation. Admittedly, Kelechi Iheanacho has done better than most expected. But even then, there is a lack of overall depth and quality up front, and the lack of goals this season should not come as a surprise to anybody.

As it turns out, the club might have already had the solution to their problems right under their noses. But he never got a proper chance at Celtic and was allowed to leave for a transfer fee believed to be in the region of €3 million in the summer of 2024. Over the next year-and-a-bit, he has developed into a €28 million striker.

Of course, we are talking about Oh Hyeon-gyu. He was on the verge of a €28 million move to the Bundesliga this summer, but it collapsed at the last minute. But while we see Daizen Maeda struggle under similar circumstances, his former Celtic teammate is thriving.

Oh scored the winner for Genk in their game against the Rangers at Ibrox last week. That would have pleased the Celtic fans,

He is not showing any signs of slowing down though. At the weekend, he scored a 95th minute winner for Genk in a derby game.

So, it would be safe to say that Oh has proven himself to be a top quality striker in Belgium. Someone Celtic never really gave a real chance to.
