Celtic have a couple of decent options at right-back right now. Alistair Johnston has been the undisputed starter there since arriving in early 2022. The Canadian international has made a fantastic start to this season as well. On the other hand, Anthony Ralston is a decent cover option for sure and has actually established himself in the Scotland national team's starting XI with some strong performances of late.
That has not stopped the club from being linked with another right-back ahead of the January transfer window though. In fact, it is someone who has spent time on loan at Celtic before.
A lot of Celtic fans might have already forgotten the name of Jonjoe Kenny, who currently plays for Hertha BSC. But he is seemingly on the radar of the club if rumours are to be believed.
As reported by Bild (via Daily Record), Celtic and Bournemouth have Kenny on their radar. He could leave in January to allow the German side to recoup a transfer fee.
Former Celtic right-back linked with Parkhead return
Kenny came through the youth ranks at Everton. And when Jeremie Frimpong left Celtic for Bayer Leverkusen in early 2021, he was brought in on loan from the Merseyside club for the remainder of the campaign.
Kenny did not make much of an impression during his half-season loan spell at Celtic though. There were not many fans who wanted the club to even try to sign him on a permanent basis at the end of his stint at Parkhead.
Kenny appears to have improved as a player since then though. He is currently playing regular football at Hertha BSC and has proven to be a very productive right-back during his time in Germany so far. So, while not many would have seen the Celtic return links coming, they do make sense.
