It is hard to predict where Celtic's managerial search will go. Even a few days back, most people seemed to be on board with the idea of handing the job to Martin O'Neill until the end of the season, following the win against the Rangers. It does not take long for opinions to change in modern football though. Exactly that happened as a result of the defeat at the hands of FC Midtjylland.
Now, most believe that a new manager should be in place and given the chance to rebuild the squad in the January transfer window. To be honest, that might be a good idea.
That being said, there have been suggestions that Kjetil Knutsen is open to taking the Celtic job but wants to see out Bodo/Glimt's campaign in the Champions League. It is very likely that they won't get past the first phase of the competition, but even then, it will run until 28 January. So, it is not ideal.
There are plenty of other managers Celtic have been linked with, including former players. And one of them could join them for free due to a clause in his current deal.
Former Celtic player could return as manager for free
Efrain Juarez only had a short and unremarkable spell at Celtic. He has moved into management since hanging up his boots and is currently the boss of Mexican side Pumas UNAM.
As reported by Excelsior, Juarez has a two-year contract with Pumas. However, there are clauses in his favour in case an offer arrives from Europe to move without having to pay anything.
Of course, that would make any move to Celtic simpler. That being said, is Juarez the right man for the job? He had a solid spell at Atletico Nacional, delivering silverware for the Colombian side. But his spell at Pumas UNAM has been poor.
