Charlie Mulgrew has said the obvious part out when it comes to a pressing part of Celtic's summer business. The Bhoys are yet to pull the trigger on any of their summer business, with fans growing increasingly frustrated by the lack of action at Parkhead.
The Bhoys kick off their pre-season training on Friday, and it looks as though there will be no new faces in the building at that stage. Although a pressing question surrounds an existing player who may or may not be there.
Iheanacho decision looms
Celtic must decide by Wednesday whether they want to keep Kelechi Iheanacho for another season. The striker's current short-term deal ends at the end of this month, but the Bhoys do have an option to extend it for another year.
Martin O'Neill has said he is open to the idea, praising Iheanacho for the impact he had after joining on a free deal from Sevilla, particularly towards the end of the season when he had shaken off some initial injury issues.
But the Celtic boss also said Iheanacho needed an extended run of training to get fully fit, which one would assume would come in the form of pre-season.
At this stage, it's unclear what Celtic will do with Iheanacho, but given the fitness concerns, they may well invite him in for pre-season testing to gauge how good a shape he has been keeping himself in during the off-season before continuing conversations.
Reports suggest Iheanacho does want to stay at Celtic, and his summer social media posts back that up, but he is going to want a contract before pre-season to ensure he is protected against injury.
Mulgrew on Iheanacho and striker problem
Former Celtic favourite Charlie Mulgrew says Celtic cannot afford to allow Iheanacho to leave, given the crisis they have forming at the top of the pitch, with Callum Osmand the only striker on the books from July 1 as things stand.
He told the Daily Record: "I mean there's no doubt about it, for a few seasons now there's been a striker needed. Daizen Maeda stepped up at the end of the season, but we need a striker.
"Celtic need to bring a striker in, two, maybe three. Because in the actual squad, I don't know if Kelechi Iheanacho has triggered his contract or his extension yet. That'll be something I would be looking to keep and then bring another couple."
