A former Celtic fan favourite has been ruled out for the rest of the season with an injury.
Kyogo Furuhashi left the Celts in January 2025, making the move to Rennes. Jota came the other way, but things didn't work out for the striker in France as he shortly departed for Birmingham City in the summer.
His first season in England has been difficult, with him failing to find his feet south of the border. With only one goal in 26 Championship appearances, he could already be on his way out of the club, and he won't get the chance to impress for the rest of the campaign as he is now sidelined with a shoulder injury.
Blues boss Chris Davies confirmed on Friday that he will not be available for selection. He said: "Kyogo is out for the season. He’s had his shoulder operated on, which was an ongoing thing that he kept trying to put off. In the end, we decided to get it done, and then he’s back for pre-season."
Celtic fans will remember this issue, as his shoulder was a problem in Glasgow as well. It dates all the way back to his early years before he started playing competitive football, so it's good that he has finally gone under the knife to get it sorted out.
Meanwhile at Celtic, striker problems remain
While Birmingham has its own problems with Kyogo's injury, Celtic are continuing to struggle in the striker department.
Junior Adamu is struggling for gametime as he hasn't impressed when brought on the pitch.
Tomas Cvancara wants a permanent move, but is certainly not doing enough to earn it yet.
Daizen Maeda has slotted in up front on numerous occasions, but is still struggling for overall form.
Kelechi Iheanacho disappears from time to time, and he seems to be the most reliable option, which gives a great idea of how terrible our striking options are at the moment.
Hopefully, there will be a lot of work done in the summer to bring in attacking options. Wingers have also been an area of concern, with current players underperforming compared to their previous campaigns.
The next manager will be through the door soon enough, and he should be able to see the problems right away. We are already getting to work in the transfer market, but we need to ensure that players who come in will fit his system.
