It would be safe to say that Celtic did not make too many great signings in the summer transfer window of 2023, which was one of the key reasons behind their slow start in the 23/24 campaign before adding Adam Idah and Nicolas Kuhn in the winter of 2024. A number of those players are no longer even at Parkhead, with several out on loan.
One such player who has left Celtic on loan in hopes of bringing his career back on track is Marco Tilio. The Australian winger was the first signing made during Brendan Rodgers' second spell at Parkhead.
One has to wonder whether the scouting had been done with Ange Postecoglou's brand of football in mind. Tilio barely featured for Celtic and was not helped by his fitness issues.
Tilio is currently out on loan at Melbourne City FC. And the good news is, he is starting to find his form there.
Forgotten Celtic player finding top form at loan club
Tilio had scored in the first game of the season. But he would soon get injured and had to spend a spell out on the sidelines.
Now, he is back in action though and back in form as well. Tilio has now scored in back-to-back games for Melbourne City FC with the latest proving to be a winner. The winger, who had once drawn comparisons with Phil Foden, is starting to show why Celtic had signed him in the first place,
Will this result in Tilio getting another chance at Celtic? Most probably not. But if he can continue performing at a high level away on loan, one would imagine that other clubs would take notice and more doors could open up for him in the future, when he does end up having to return to Parkhead.
