Celtic have struggled to get deals over the line this summer. For the most part, it has been because the Hoops have not been willing to meet the asking price for a number of their targets. But then, there have been other occasions where Parkhead simply has not been the destination that these players wanted to move to.
It is no secret that Celtic need to sign a winger as soon as possible. They have been linked with a long list of wingers in recent months but no move has been completed, even though it has been a while since Nicolas Kuhn left, while it has been clear that Jota won't be returning to the pitch from his injury anytime soon.
The situation is far from ideal. And recently, Celtic saw one of their targets, Sondre Orjasaeter, end up joining FC Twente.
It was reported in the winter that Celtic had seen a transfer bid for Orjasaeter rejected. This summer, he has moved for a similar fee, believed to be in the region of €5 million plus add-ons. So, why didn't the Scottish champions make another move? Well. it looks like the player might not have been keen on it himself.
FC Twente official confirms real reason €5m player didn't join Celtic
As reported by The Celtic Way, FC Twente sporting director Jan Streuer said about the situation:
"He definitely had more options.
"Celtic, for example, also wanted him; he's been there."
Someone like Orjasaeter could have been a solid addition to this Celtic team. But it looks like he was more keen on a move to the Netherlands. Streuer added:
"He could have gone to other countries.
"But he really wanted to go to the Netherlands.
"In my opinion, that's also a great step for a young player's development."
Well, Orjasaeter is clearly no longer an option for Celtic. So, there is no point dwelling on that move and it is time to focus on other transfer targets.
Michel-Ange Balikwisha appears to be someone who has been on Celtic's radar for quite some time now, going back a year. If there is one winger who seems likely to end up at Parkhead this summer, it is the Belgian. Other than that, there have been some links with Clement Bischoff of Brondby as well.
Right now, all we can do is wait and watch. Fans are hoping for some additions before the Champions League qualifier play-off against Kairat Almaty but that feels pretty unlikely.
