It would be safe to say that most Celtic fans would be happy if the club brought in another striker before the close of the summer transfer window. The Hoops have Adam Idah as their first-choice number 9 at the moment. The Irishman was signed for around £9.5 million from Norwich City last year but has failed to meet expectations.
Idah scored 20 goals last season, while mostly playing as a cover option. But when given the chance to start and make that role his own, he has too often failed to make an impact on games. Perhaps he is better suited to be an impact substitute.
Daizen Maeda was doing pretty well in the central role in the second half of last season, after Kyogo departed. But with Jota out injured and Nicolas Kuhn having left, the Japanese international now finds himself playing as a winger once again.
Amid all this, it looks like Celtic are still interested in David Strelec of Slovan Bratislava. It is believed that they had an offer turned down for him in January. As reported by The Scottish Sun, the striker's father, Milan, said:
"When Slovan were trying to win through to the main stages of the Champions League again, the club's management would not consider David's transfer.
"Or at least it was not high on their agenda.
"But now I presume things will start to happen before the August deadline.
"Things will start heating up around David again.
"As far as I know, several clubs are still interested, including Celtic and Middlesbrough and we know both had bids for him in the past.
"So I am curious what will happen in the remaining few days before the deadline."
£9 million striker's father confirms Celtic want to sign him
Strelec had an impressive 24/25 campaign. In fact, Celtic came up against him in the Champions League when they took on Slovan Bratislava in the group phase of the competition.
And he has started this campaign in brilliant goalscoring form as well. So, it is not hard to see why Celtic might still want to bring him to Parkhead this summer.
Let's see what the future holds for the striker. There is no doubt that he is a quality talent. But will Celtic be ready to meet the asking price that Slovan Bratislava are believed to be looking for in order to part ways with him?
