Falkirk vs Celtic match preview

After yet another disappointing result in mid-week, can Celtic get back to winning ways? On Wednesday night, the Hoops required a second half equaliser from Liam Scales to rescue a share of the spoils against Dundee United. Despite the fact Camilo Durán opened the scoring, it was the Tangerines who led at the interval and even though they did equalise, Celtic were booed off at the end.

That is now just three wins in nine for Martin O'Neill's team, albeit the fact that all of these wins have come in the Premiership means that Celtic are four points clear of Rangers and eight ahead of Hearts. With both of those two at Hampden this weekend for the League Cup semi-finals, the champions will pull further clear at the top with victory. So, will the Celts win on the road?

Falkirk though will be no push-overs. John McGlynn's team start the weekend sixth in the table, dreaming of taking the club into Europe for the first time since 2009, having been in League One just three seasons ago. The Bairns will be full of confidence right now, having won three in a row, most-recently beating Aberdeen on Wednesday; Ben Krauhaus the match-winner off the bench at Pittodrie.

Before that, Falkirk had enjoyed victories over Hibs and Kilmarnock, only narrowly beaten 2-1 when they hosted Rangers in September. Thus, put succinctly, if Celtic put in another lacklustre performance, they will not leave Stirlingshire with all three points.

Falkirk team news

Ben Krauhaus will hope that his goal off the bench on Wednesday earns him a start this time. Meanwhile, American Jacob Murrell is the Bairns' top-scorer this season, netting five times in the Premiership so far, bagging four in his last four.

Scott Bain will be tasked with keeping out his former side; the goalkeeper made 78 appearances for Celtic, winning 14 trophies, which is not a bad ratio.

Celtic team news

Martin O'Neill remains without Alistair Johnston, Joël van den Berg and Yang Hyun-jun, but Cameron Carter-Vickers did come off the bench at Easter Road last weekend, so could he start for the first time since 20 September?

Jota meantime has also been a substitute in each of the last four Premiership matches, replacing Kasper Høgh at half time on Wednesday, so is he primed for a start?

Predicted Line-ups

  • Falkirk predicted lineup: Bain; Strain, Neilson, Henderson, Tanser; Spencer, Melniks, Krauhaus, Barbrook, Eames; Murrell.
  • Celtic predicted lineup: Johnstone; Donovan, Murray, Scales, Tierney: McGregor, Baur, Nygren; Hassan, Osmand, Durán.

  • Score prediction: Falkirk 1-3 Celtic.
