Celtic fan and Premier League icon Andy Robertson is set to leave Liverpool at the end of the season after nine brilliant years with the club.
The Hoops are one of the teams with some interest in the defender, but Fabrizio Romano has confirmed news that will shatter the hearts of fans who were hoping he would make the move to Glasgow.
Posting to his X account, Romano revealed that Tottenham Hotspur have a verbal agreement in place to sign Robertson in June. All terms are in place, but the deal is not yet agreed, as the left-back will likely only make the move should they avoid relegation to the English Championship.
Spurs are currently in the relegation zone, two points away from West Ham in 17th place with a game in hand. They could survive the drop, and they'll be hoping that they can, as it would be devastating for a club of their size to drop to the second tier of football.
Robertson is a player who will help them out, but should they go down, that could bode well for Celtic's interest. The player has made it clear in the past that he wants to play for the Hoops at some point in his career. If it's not now, then there's a chance it will never be.
Celtic have been beaten, but other targets persist
Celtic may have been beaten to the prize on this occasion, but some fans weren't keen on him anyway. Robertson would likely want high wages, and with Kieran Tierney already on £50,000 per week, it was always unlikely that we would employ two players on massive financial packages in the same position.
Plus, there are many other areas of the pitch that Celtic will be looking to bolster first. There are already enquiries ongoing about bringing in a striker, with the only option at the end of the season likely to be Callum Osmand and Johnny Kenny, and a new centre-back is also on our radar.
Losing Robertson isn't the end of the world, but it would have been a positive for the Hoops. Hopefully, Tierney stays fit, as he has done for most of this season, and if we can bring in Marcelo Saracchi on a permanent deal, that would keep the left-back position strong going into the next campaign.
Should Saracchi leave, Celtic will need to look for another option though. Robertson costs too much to be a backup, so it'll be someone relatively cheap. Only time will tell, but one thing is for sure - it seems as though the idea of the boyhood fan making the move to Parkhead is simply a dream.
