Sources have reported that potential Celtic target Andy Robertson could sign a new contract at Liverpool. His deal is set to expire at the end of the season, with clubs like Tottenham Hotspur also being linked with the left-back.

Robertson joined the Reds in the summer of 2017 and has been a regular feature for the Premier League champions. During his time at Anfield, he has won the Premier League title twice, the FA Cup once, the Carabao Cup twice, and the Champions League in 2019.

He has made a whopping 365 appearances for the club, having scored 12 goals and assisted 68 from the fullback position.

Celtic have been linked with Robertson for some time, but there have never been credible sources confirming the move. As far as we know, no formal offer has taken place, and no serious talks have been carried out with the Scotland captain.

Robertson's future is up in the air

There is no doubt that Robertson would love to stay at Liverpool. For years, he has been adored by supporters of the Reds, and leaving a top Premier League side is a difficult decision for any footballer. If the club put an offer on the table, it's safe to say that the Scotsman would take it.

However, an offer from fellow English side Spurs could also be appealing. With Destiny Udogie and the injured Ben Davies being their options at left-back, a move could look good for Robertson, as he would be likely to get game time. Whether Thomas Frank will be there next season is up in the air, but Spurs will likely be on the lookout.

Celtic are also appointing a new manager in the summer though, and Robertson will be a good target for the fullback spot. He is a player with proven experience, who is a massive Celtic fan, and is also someone who has stated in the past that he would love to play for the Hoops one day.

Liverpool would apparently only be looking for £5 million to depart with the fullback, but it's understandable that we didn't make a move in the winter. There is little to no chance he would've left the English top flight mid-season, especially with icons like Virgil van Dijk speaking out against selling him.

The deal they are now thinking of tabling would only keep him at Anfield for an additional one or two years, so it would appear Celtic will have to pay up if they do want to secure his services.

Bringing Robertson to the club would give us everything. Leadership, ability and experience that we really need. He would definitely help the young players reach their potential, and if Celtic do end up bringing his former teammate, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, to the club, that could help out the Celts even more.

His wages could be a concern though, as he may ask for a large payment. If Liverpool doesn't pen a deal and he doesn't get offers from European or Premier League clubs, he may be willing to take a pay cut, but that is simple speculation.

It will be an interesting summer to say the least, but there is no doubt that Celtic should have their eyes on Robertson.
