With the January transfer window less than two weeks away, Celtic are expected to make at least a few signings while some might head in the opposite direction. Not too long ago, the midfield was considered the squad's strongest area but after some recent performances, it is starting to feel like there is room for improvement.
The likes of Reo Hatate and Callum McGregor, who are considered nailed-on starters, have been shaky. On the other hand, Arne Engels has not been particularly convincing since his record move in the summer. Paulo Bernardo and Luke McCowan have done well and perhaps deserve more opportunities. Odin Thiago Holm does not seem to have much of a future at the club, to be honest after barely getting any playing time lately.
One player that Celtic have been linked with in recent times is Carney Chukwuemeka. And it looks like the Hoops' chances of signing the player next month have been boosted.
He seems to be one of the players looking to exit Stamford Bridge. As reported by Fabrizio Romano, Chukwuemeka, Ben Chilwell and Cesare Casadei are also planning to leave Chelsea in January.
Fabrizio Romano's Chelsea news will interest Celtic
Chukwuemeka was signed by Chelsea from Aston Villa. And the midfielder did impress during his early appearances for the club.
But now, he does not seem to have much of a place in Enzo Maresca's plans. To be honest, it is not hard to understand why that might be the case.
Chelsea are absolutely stacked in that area of the pitch. They have players like Cole Palmer, Christopher Nkunku and Joao Felix. Naturally, it is very difficult for Chukwuemeka to get playing time ahead of them at the moment. So, parting ways, whether on loan or permanently, might be the best step forward.
