There is a lot of dissatisfaction amongst the Celtic fanbase right now. And the majority of it is pointed towards the board and the lack of ambition we have seen from the club in recent times. In fact, they are planning to stay out of Rugby Park for the first twelve minutes of the game against Kilmarnock this weekend.
A lot of eyes were on Brendan Rodgers' press conference yesterday as well. And even the manager admitted that there needed to be change in the football model.
Many believe that the club simply did not back Rodgers in the summer transfer window. But then, Kris Boyd has decided to bring in an alternate view to the table.
Boyd appears to believe that Rodgers has gotten enough backing since his return in the summer of 2023 and that he gets an easy ride from the Celtic support. As reported by 67 Hail Hail, the former Rangers man wrote in his column in The Scottish Sun:
"It puzzles me how a manager who has spent north of £60 million since returning to Celtic since 2023 gets such an easy ride from the support.
“It’s a myth to say that Rodgers hasn’t been backed, and the squad he has at his disposal was more than good enough to win that tie. No matter how much Rodgers moans about the timing of the signings, I’m just not buying his excuses."

Well, it is also important to have a look at the players who left since Rodgers' return. Jota went to Al-Ittihad for £25 million, before his eventual return. Matt O'Riley joined Brighton & Hove Albion for €29 million. Kyogo moved to Rennes. Nicolas Kuhn left for Como FC this summer. The list goes on.
Yes, the money has been spent on new signings. But significantly more has come in through departures. Also, a large portion of that spending has been on project players who have not worked out.
One could argue that the moves for Adam Idah and Arne Engels were big-money mistakes. But how much say does Rodgers have when it comes to transfers these days? That is also a question worth asking under these circumstances.
