Things are not going Celtic's way at the moment. They are coming off arguably their worst summer transfer window in history. Going into it, the talk was about strengthening Brendan Rodgers' squad. But as we stand in September, it feels like the roster is significantly weaker than the one that was in place even twelve months back.
Kyogo Furuhashi has never been replaced and now, the same can be said about Adam Idah, whose exit was sanctioned on deadline day despite a lack of options up top and without a replacement in place. Also, it remains to be seen how good of a job they did when it comes to replacing Nicolas Kuhn. There are question marks surrounding both Michel-Ange Balikwisha and Sebastian Tounekti.
Another major talking point right now is the future of Rodgers. And to be honest, it is hard to imagine a scenario where he signs a new contract, after how the recent summer transfer window was handled.
In fact, it looks like things are already headed in that direction. As reported by Football Insider, Rodgers is edging closer to the Celtic exit door after a terrible summer transfer window led to the collapse of contract talks.
Celtic contract talks collapse in another fresh blow
Of course, Rodgers did not rule out the possibility of signing an extension under certain conditions. But that being said, you cannot expect a manager to announce that he plans to leave with a year left on his deal, can you?
It is more than likely that somebody else will be the Celtic manager come next season. And to be honest, one has to wonder if the club even are trying to keep Rodgers at Parkhead beyond the ongoing campaign.
Their lack of ambition shown in the summer transfer window paints its own story. Let's see where we go from here.
