Evan Ferguson gave Celtic fans a taste of what he is capable of by scoring a brace against the Hoops when they met AS Roma in the Europa League this week. He is at the Italian side only on loan though and there is a real possibility that it could be cut short. Overall, his stint has not been fruitful, with the Irishman only scoring thrice for Gian Piero Gasperini's team so far.
As a result, there has always been the chance that Brighton & Hove Albion could decide to cut his loan deal short and send him to some other club in the second half of the campaign. Yet, it looks like another possibility has now cropped up and it is one not many would have anticipated.
Stefanos Tzimas has gone down with a season-ending injury. And that could lead to Brighton & Hove Albion recalling Ferguson, not to send him on loan elsewhere but to keep him at the club for the second half of the season.
As reported by FootballTransfers, Brighton & Hove Albion manager Fabian Hurzeler has admitted that it is a distinct possibility. He said:
"Evan is a player for us, that is why he will always be an option.
“At the moment he is on loan but we follow it, we are pleased with how he performed yesterday. Of course we all follow it, so definitely he might be an option."
Evan Ferguson transfer twist amid growing Celtic rumours
Of course, that would be the end of Celtic's hopes of signing him. So, if you want to see Ferguson in a green-and-white shirt in the second half of the season, you would want Brighton & Hove Albion to sign a different striker.
On the other hand, there is also the possibility that the brace against Cetic extends Ferguson's stint at AS Roma and gives him the boost that he needed. That would be ironic for sure.
At the end of the day, your guess is as good as ours in this regard. Let's just hope that Celtic are able to sign a striker in January who can get them consistent goals and remain fit.
