In the summer, Evan Ferguson is a striker Celtic were heavily linked with. But it ultimately ended up nowhere. While the Irish international did leave Brighton & Hove Albion on loan, it is AS Roma that he ended up joining. That spell in Italy has not gone according to plan though and he could be looking for a club once again soon.

It is clear that AS Roma had high hopes for Ferguson. He was a starter for them at the start of the campaign but has gradually slipped down the pecking order, and is an option on the bench right now.

In fact, after failing to score in 10 appearances for the club, there are question marks over his future at AS Roma. Celtic could be looking to take advantage of the situation and swoop in, if the Irishman did become available in January.

As reported by 67 Hail Hail, Celtic are watching Ferguson’s situation ahead of the January transfer window. AS Roma are expected to cancel his loan and allow him to return to Brighton.

Ferguson was viewed as a £100 million striker not too long ago. Things and opinions can change very quickly in football though, especially when you are not scoring.

Ferguson had a couple of tough seasons at Brighton & Hove Albion. He was sent out on loan to West Ham United in the second half of last season but failed to score for them. Now, the same has happened at AS Roma.

As a result, his transfer valuation continues to dip. At one point in time, it would have been impossible for Celtic to sign him on a permanent basis. That might no longer be the case though, especially if things continue in this manner, although a loan is much more likely and safe.
