Celtic are expected to go out and sign a striker this summer. They have two pretty good ones right now in Daizen Maeda and Adam Idah. The two combined for an impressive 53 goals this season. Yet, it feels like when it comes to an out-and-out forward who can decide big games on his own and give them that extra advantage, the Hoops have one missing.
That's where Evan Ferguson comes in. The Irish striker shook up the Premier League when he made his breakthrough at Brighton & Hove Albion and at one point, it seemed that it would take a transfer fee in the region of £100 million to sign him.
That feels like a lifetime ago now. Ferguson is coming off a nightmare season. In the first half of the 24/25 season, he managed just one goal in 15 appearances. As a result, he was sent out on on loan to West Ham United but things did not improve. He did not even score for the Hammers.
As a result, it might be time for a change in scenery for Ferguson. And he has been tipped to join Celtic to rediscover his confidence.
Evan Ferguson tipped to join Celtic by Sky Sports man
As reported by CeltsAreHere, Sky Sports pundit Don Goodman said about Ferguson and a potential move to Celtic:
"He only started a combined three Premier League games for both Brighton and West Ham. To me, it looks like his confidence is on the floor.
“I thought in January, and this is no disrespect to the Scottish Premiership, that Evan Ferguson should aim higher. But given what’s happened, a move to Celtic wouldn’t be the worst idea in the world.
“If he goes to Celtic, he would be guaranteed goals, which would only boost his confidence and help bring out the player that we saw break through at Brighton. Evan Ferguson just needs to play football. If a move to Celtic means he can do that, then I understand why he would do it."
Let's see what the future holds for Ferguson. Of course, Celtic would not be able to sign him on a permanent basis by shelling out a transfer fee. But a loan move could be a possibility, that is for sure.
Ferguson would be a high-profile signing for Celtic. Would it work out though? One would imagine that it would, if he can rediscover his form in front of the goal. He has all the other attributes, there is no doubt about that.
