After seeing Celtic be eliminated from the Champions League qualifying phase, there is now uncertainty about how the rest of the summer window will look for the Hoops. Of course, not making the competition means a lower budget. But then again, they have only spent £3 million on transfer fees so far.

A move for Michel-Ange Balikwisha is believed to be on the verge of completion though. The Hoops definitely need some strengthening on the flanks, having said goodbye to Nicolas Kuhn, Marco Tilio and Luis Palma in this window.

But just as a winger looks set to arrive, another could be on his way out. Yang Hyun-jun was one of the starters for Celtic in the game against Kairat. The fact that he is in that spot speaks more about the lack of depth in that position than how he has performed for the Hoops this season.

As reported by Anthony Joseph, Birmingham City have made an approach for Yang. The Hoops are assessing the South Korea international’s situation, but are yet to green-light any move away. The English club are keen to sign him on a permanent deal and the clubs remain in talks.

From what we have seen from Yang so far, he is not someone who cannot be replaced. But it is more about the lack of depth on the wings right now.

James Forrest is getting consistent starting minutes at the moment. That should not be happening at this point in his career. But the Hoops simply do not have better options around.

Celtic simply cannot afford to let any more wingers leave before they have brought in replacements first and stocked up in that area of the pitch. Let's see what the future holds for Yang. Birmingham City already have Tomoki Iwata and Kyogo in their ranks.
