Most Celtic fans believe that the club need to sign a striker before the close of this winter transfer window after green-lighting Kyogo Furuhashi's exit in the middle of the campaign. But unfortunately, it looks like they are struggling to sign any of their rumoured targets. It is believed that talks were held for both Mathias Kvistgaarden and Kelechi Iheanacho without any success.
Now, another rumoured Celtic transfer target has agreed a move elsewhere. He is headed to the English Championship instead.
As reported by Tipsbladet last week, several big clubs wanted Tammer Bany. Celtic were among those showing interest in the Randers striker.
As reported by Anthony Joseph, West Bromwich Albion are closing in on the signing of Bany. It’s understood that a transfer fee of £3.3 million has been agreed between the clubs.
English club agree £3.3m deal to sign Celtic striker target
It is not hard to see why Celtic might have been interested in Bany. He is the type of signing that the club have consistently made over the years.
Bany is 21 years of age and has room for growth. He is someone who could spend a few seasons at Celtic Park, develop his game and ultimately, move on for a significantly higher transfer fee at some point in the future.
Of course, Celtic were not able to get a deal done for Bany and now West Bromwich Albion will probably be trying to achieve the same thing. It is unclear whether the Hoops even tried to sign the Randers striker or if the interest was just a creation of the rumour mill.
One can only hope that Celtic do end up signing a striker before the end of this winter transfer window. Otherwise, they will have left themselves in a bad position.
Adam Idah has impressed over the last two matches but one cannot forget his 14-game goalless run preceding that. Johnny Kenny is probably not ready for a starring role. And we have rarely seen Daizen Maeda play as a striker for Celtic.
