After sealing the Premiership title race, Celtic and the Rangers are set to meet at the weekend at Ibrox. The Hoops have lost the previous two Glasgow Derbies, 3-0 away and 3-2 at home. Thus, the Scottish champions need to bounce back this time around even though the result of this game won't have an effect on where the trophy is headed.
On the other hand, that is not the only time that the two clubs will face each other this week. The B teams are set to face off as well and on that occasion, the result of the game will have a direct impact on the destination of the trophy.
As reported by the club's official website, the B Team face their Rangers counterparts in the Glasgow Cup Final and the match can be seen live on Celtic TV. Stephen McManus’s side will now take on their crosstown rivals on Tuesday, April 29.
It is one of the oldest trophies in Scottish football and Celtic will surely want to win. Especially after they came off second best in the 2024 final.
Early morning Celtic vs Rangers announcement made
Of course, Celtic fans will want to see the B Team win. That being said, it is even more important that the club create a pathway for those players to make it to the senior setup and succeed.
Over the last few years, we have seen many B Team standouts choose to leave the club early on in their careers. That includes names like Rocco Vata, Daniel Kelly and in the summer, Daniel Cummings looks set to depart as well.
They cannot be blamed for choosing to do so, as nobody has really made the jump from the B Team and become a regular at the first-team level for Celtic in quite some time. The academy graduate to become a starter for the Hoops was Kieran Tierney.
It has been a long time since then. Tierney established himself at Celtic, left for Arsenal, had a six-year stint there and is now set to return to Parkhead in the summer.
