One can appreciate that the January transfer window is a difficult time to bring in players. That being said, it is not as tough as Celtic are making it seem at the moment. The Hoops have only managed to make one loan addition so far, with Julian Araujo joining on loan from Bournemouth for the rest of the season.
Coming into the January window, we all knew how badly Celtic needed to make signings. Even Martin O'Neill has mentioned it repeatedly in the media. But by now, he is starting to sound like Brendan Rodgers, as his requests lead to nothing of consequence.
Signing a striker is believed to be a priority for Celtic at the moment. But with just a couple of weeks left in the window, it is hard to see any progress that the club have made towards achieving that aim. If anything, a new name seems to be getting ruled out as a possibility every day.
Kyogo has stayed on at Birmingham City. Franko Kovacevic looks to be headed to Ferencvaros. And now, another name has to be crossed off the list of potential signings for Celtic.
'Decision made' - Fabrizio Romano confirms bad news for Celtic
As reported by Fabrizio Romano, Callum Wilson is set to stay at West Ham United this month with no plans to part ways at this point in the window. Decision made by the club's hierarchy.
Wilson is a striker who had been heavily suggested as a signing for Celtic, as there had been rumours that West Ham United could be about to terminate his contract this month. The English international ended up scoring a 93rd-minute winner against Tottenham Hotspur at the weekend though. That appears to have saved his career with the Hammers.
As for Celtic, it means that another option is no longer a possibility. Who does that leave anyway? David Datro Fofana of Chelsea looks set for a move, but having already turned down the Hoops in the summer, will he change his mind this time around? Bundesliga strikers like Andrej Ilic of Union Berlin and Jonas Wind of Wolfsburg have been brought up in the media as well. Tawanda Maswanhise of Motherwell is starting to feel like the likeliest of them.
