There has not been much fresh news regarding Celtic in recent weeks, to the worry of the supporters. But that does not mean that there has not been interesting transfer news cropping up left, right and centre. We had already discussed earlier in the day how Matt O'Riley and Juventus have been in talks over a move. And now, it looks like another former Hoops player is on the move in this window.
The striker position has been an issue for Celtic for quite some time now. At the moment, they could certainly do with someone like Giorgos Giakoumakis.
Celtic have never really managed to replace Giakoumakis, since he left in early 2023. Oh Hyeon-gyu showed flashes of quality but was not able to fill his void. And now, it looks like Adam Idah is headed in the same direction.
On the other hand, Giakoumakis is set to make his third move in a little over two years. He had left Celtic for Atlanta United. After that, he moved to Cruz Azul. And now, a return to Greece beckons for the former Scottish Premiership top goalscorer.
'Deal agreed' - Fabrizio Romano drops news that will interest Celtic fans
As reported by Fabrizio Romano, Giakoumakīs to PAOK is set to happen. The deal is agreed and done with Cruz Azul for a loan move. The loan fee will be €2m and there will be an option to buy as well.
There is no doubt that Giakoumakis is a fantastic striker. He has proven that by scoring consistently in Scotland, the United States and the Netherlands. Now, it remains to be seen what he can do in Greece.
Interestingly, he is set to reunite with a former Celtic teammate of his at PAOK. Greg Taylor joined the club earlier in the summer as a free agent and will surely be happy to have a familiar face around.
