Celtic have been told that the Premier League club might accept a £3.5 million bid for a player the Hoops have wanted for a while.

Celtic fans are hoping that the club will soon start to get some business done in this summer transfer window, in terms of incomings. That does not mean that signings have not been made in recent months. But one has to wonder how many of them are good enough to make a proper impact on Brendan Rodgers' first-team, except for Kieran Tierney and Benjamin Nygren.

The midfield looks like one of Celtic's strong points at this point in time. But there might be room for another addition there.

We have seen Celtic be linked with a long list of midfielders this summer, although a signing is yet to be made. Nygren was playing mostly as a winger before his Parkhead arrival but Rodgers seems to prefer playing him as part of the midfield three. He is certainly showing a ton of potential in that role, to be fair.

Andy Irving is a midfielder Celtic have been linked with for quite some time now. As reported by Claret & Hugh, an agent involved in numerous transfers with West Ham United said:

"There was a bid for £2.2m but Potter has a higher value. I think they’d accept £3.5m."

The club that made the £2.2 million bid remains unnamed. But it would not come as a surprise to anybody, it that was revealed to be Celtic in the future. That just feels like the kind of offer that the Hoops would make, trying to 'win' another deal.

To be fair, that £3.5 million figure seems pretty reasonable for a player who has Premier League experience and is a Scottish international as well. He is also proven in both Scotland and Austria.

And on top of everything else, one cannot forget that Irving is still just 25 years of age. So, he is only heading towards his prime.
