A few weeks ago, we saw how the Rangers struggled to find a new manager after showing Russell Martin the exit door. One would imagine that the Celtic job would be much more attractive to managers. But even then, the process is not going to be a straightforward one if the early indications are anything to go by.
Brendan Rodgers resigned from his post earlier than anybody could have expected. In the aftermath, Martin O'Neill and Shaun Maloney were brought in to take interim charge of the team and they have made quite the start with a 4-0 win over Falkirk. It was the most exciting football that this team has played in a while.
At 73 years of age, O'Neill is not the long-term answer for Celtic though. They will need to bring in a permanent manager soon. And one of the names they have been linked with is Wales national team boss Craig Bellamy. Unfortunately though, it looks like it is not something that is on the cards right now.
As reported by 67 Hail Hail, Bellamy has not applied for the vacant Celtic role. Wales are still in contention to qualify for next summer’s World Cup and he is not willing to walk away mid-season.
Craig Bellamy makes final decision on taking Celtic job
It would be understandable if Bellamy does not want to leave the Welsh job at the moment. But that does provide Celtic with another worry.
It is also worth pointing out that it seems like Ange Postecoglou does not seem keen on an immediate return to management after being sacked twice within the space of a few months. So, the options are decreasing if you are Celtic.
At this point, one has to wonder if it makes more sense for the club to keep O'Neill in charge for a little while, until they are convinced that the right manager is available. It would not make sense to rush into a decision, especially if the team continues playing well under his interim charge.
