Evan Ferguson is a high-profile name that Celtic have been linked with in recent months. Well, even though he is highly-regarded, the Irish international's form has been well below expectations in recent seasons. In the 24/25 campaign, he managed to score just once, with none coming while away on loan at West Ham United.

So, it is clear that things are not working for Ferguson and his confidence might be at rock bottom. This is the time for a change of scenery. Celtic can provide him with just that.

Of course, some will question whether Celtic have the ability to attract a rising Premier League striker. Well, there is an update on the situation.

As reported by Football Insider, Celtic are confident they can win the race against both Everton and Nottingham Forest to a deal to sign Ferguson on a season-long loan from Brighton & Hove Albion. Mick Brown said:

"For a team like Everton or Forest, he would still have a lot to offer.

“But he could go to Celtic as the main man up front, away from the pressure that comes with the Premier League, and prove what he can do.

“I think Brendan Rodgers will be pushing to get that done, he wants to be ambitious in the market.

“He expects to be backed and this would be a statement of intent, even if it’s on a loan deal."

So, it looks like Celtic are confident of their chances when it comes to the race to sign Ferguson. It is almost certain that any deal would be on a season-long loan basis. But even then, the Hoops would be adding a top prospect to their squad.

Memories are short in modern football. But those with a keen one will remember that it was not too long ago that Ferguson was being tipped to be the next £100 million Premier League striker.

Yes, his form has dipped significantly since a fast start at the senior level for Brighton & Hove Albion. But the talent has not suddenly evaporated. He is going through a rough patch, that is all. That can happen with the best players on the planet. Just look at Cole Palmer's recent run with Chelsea.

So, this is the time to continue backing Ferguson's talent and potential, and help him get back to his best. A loan stint at Celtic might be just what he needs.
