It would be the understatement of the century to say that Celtic fans were not happy with the club's summer transfer window. Not only were the Hoops unable to meet expectations and strengthen the squad, but they did not meet the minimum requirements either, which would have been to bring in proper replacements for the key starters who left.
In the aftermath of it, fans have conducted protests. They are unhappy with the lack of ambition shown and want changes to be made to the football model of the club as well as the board.
The performances since the summer transfer window have shown how weak this current Celtic team is. Now, it remains to be seen how they respond in the winter.
Many have wondered whether the ongoing protests are going to have an impact on how Celtic will approach this January transfer window. Will they make some big signings to try and appease the supporters? Unfortunately, it looks unlikely to be the case. As reported by Football Insider, Pete O'Rourke said when discussing the matter:
"I don’t think it’ll have any effect at all on the Celtic board whatsoever despite these ongoing protests.
“I don’t think they’ll be forced into dipping into their pockets in January just to ease and appease the fans."
Concerning update on Celtic's January transfer plans
That is a view that most Celtic fans will not be happy with. That being said, considering how things have turned out, it would not be surprising if that is exactly how things turned out.
Celtic confirmed record revenue and profits soon after the summer transfer window came to a close. Of course, that makes the lack of ambition shown in the transfer market even more concerning if your are a supporter of the Hoops.
It remains to be seen if any changes do end up taking place as a result of the fan protests. So far, nothing substantial has happened. There have been a few statements which have been made, explaining the transfer strategy and shortcomings, but they have fallen flat and not been enough to satisfy the fans.
