The 1-1 draw at Ibrox showed once again that Celtic need to shake things up in the summer. While the Hoops were able to end their losing run against the Rangers, they failed to win the Glasgow Derby once again. They had lost the previous two and the Scottish League Cup final before that had ended 3-3 before Brendan Rodgers' side came out victorious on penalties.
Thus, it is safe to say that the Rangers have given Celtic plenty of problems in recent times. And they are expected to get better with an impending takeover by the San Francisco 49ers on the horizon.
So, Celtic need to be ready for that. Not only will they have to sign players in the summer but they will need to move on from the right ones as well in order to make space in the squad.
One player that falls under that category is Gustaf Lagerbielke. The Swedish defender has barely featured for Celtic since joining the club and is currently out on loan at FC Twente. The hope was that he would join them on a permanent basis in the summer, having done a decent job for the Dutch side. But now, it looks like that is not the cards unless the Hoops change up their demands.
Club chief confirms summer transfer blow for Celtic
As reported by The Herald, Twente technical director Arnold Bruggink said:
"In this case, we are dependent on what Celtic want. They are asking for quite a bit of money.
"He is a very stable defender. We would like to make the deal permanent, but I think it is not very realistic at the moment."
The Swede had done quite well earlier on in the season for Twente and it looked like a permanent move in the summer was going to happen. But he has faced some criticism in recent times as well and might have made them rethink about the level of interest they have in signing him permanently.
It remains to be seen how things will play out. What is clear though is that Lagerbielke does not seem to have a future at Celtic.
