Celtic have been linked with a move for centre-back currently playing in Europe, and there could be some legs to the rumour, according to a club chief.
The Bhoys are yet to get going in this summer window, with Martin O'Neill yet to be handed a new signing despite coming into the summer asking for efficient recruitment.
But the business will come, and when it does, we are likely to see at least a handful of recruits, given the needs O'Neill has in his squad.
Celtic linked with Michael Parker
Celtic were recently linked with a move for former West Brom player Michael Parker, who currently plays for Orgryte in Sweden.
The 21-year-old, who stands at 6ft3", has been impressing in Scandinavia, establishing his senior career having not quite made it at West Brom. Parker came through the West Midlands side's academy and represented the under-21s, but he left at that stage.
Swedish side Orgryte’s sporting director, Pontus Farnerud, has now spoken about the interest in Parker this summer.
“There is interest in Michael," he said. "Clubs have contacted me. He has a strong profile and possesses qualities that make him attract interest, but at the moment, all focus for both Michael and the club is the match against Kalmar this weekend.”
Celtic have a centre-back need, but it's not a glaring one
Celtic could do with adding another centre-back this summer. There are currently five centre-backs on the Celtic books, but that includes Maik Nawrocki, who has struggled to establish himself at the club, and Dane Murray is a younger player who is likely to play a smaller role.
O'Neill is going to want five centre-backs on the books for the new season, and Nawrocki could be offloaded this summer, opening up a gap.
Parker is unlikely to be seen as a starter should he arrive, but as a young player, only 21 years of age, Parker could be a useful option who could go on to develop into something more.
Transfermarkt currently value Parker at £1.7million, but Orgryte could ask for more than that. Celtic have money to spend this summer, and that fee will be seen as an affordable one, especially for a centre-back who has plenty of room to grow and develop.
But it doesn't seem as though a deal is anywhere near close at this stage, with clubs only contacting the Swedish club at this stage, rather than submitting any sort of formal proposal.
