The fans always keep an eye out on former Celtic players, once they step into the world of management. There are some who go on to achieve success in their post-playing careers while some others fail to do that. But only a select few have both played for the Hoops and then gone on to manage them.

One of the names that belongs on that list is that of Tony Mowbray. Most modern fans will remember his unsuccessful spell as Celtic manager in the 09/10 season.

But what some time have forgotten is the fact that he played for the club as well. Mowbray was at Celtic in the 1990s and spent more than three seasons playing for the Hoops.

Overall, Mowbray's management career has to be considered a success. He has coached for over two decades. Unfortunately, his latest run ended after a little over three months.

Mowbray had returned to West Bromwich Albion for a second spell in January of this year. In his first stint, he had spent three seasons with the club and it is his success with them that had earned him the Celtic job. It is safe to say that this run was not nearly as good.

As reported by West Bromwich Albion's official website, they have parted company with Mowbray. His assistant Head Coach Mark Venus has also departed the club.

At the end of the day, it is not hard to understand why West Bromwich Albion made the decision. Things clearly were not working for them. Mowbray managed in 17 games since his arrival in mid-January, winning just five times while losing on eight occasions.

West Bromwich Albion were sitting at seventh when Mowbray had arrived and were very much in playoff contention. But now, they have slipped down to tenth and those hopes are as good as over.
