One of the high-profile names Celtic were linked with in the winter was Christian Eriksen. The midfielder has not been a significant part of Manchester United's plans since the appointment of Ruben Amorim as manager. Thus, there were suggestions that the Premier League club could allow him to leave on loan before his contract ran out in the summer, just like Crystal Palace did with Jeffrey Schlupp.

That did not happen. Eriksen is still at Manchester United, where he is playing a bit-part role in Amorim's plans.

His long-term future has been cleared up though. As reported by Fabrizio Romano, Eriksen will soon start exploring options for his next chapter. He is set to leave Manchester United at the end of the season. His contract won’t be extended and he will be a free agent in the summer.

Will Celtic end up making a move for the veteran midfielder in the summer as they look to make further progress in the Champions League? Time shall tell. They certainly will have the option though, with Eriksen becoming a free agent.

Eriksen turned 33 years of age this month. So, he should have a decent bit of football left in the tank even though Man Utd are not ready to extend his contract.

Eriksen has actually been decent for Manchester United when given a chance this season. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he has scored 4 goals and provided 4 assists in 1211 minutes of football.

Not bad numbers for a midfielder. Also, one cannot overlook the experience that someone like Eriksen would bring to the table for a club like Celtic, who are hoping to go to the next level in Europe. The presence of Kasper Schmeichel could help as well.
