Celtic were nowhere near their best at Hampden Park. It had looked like they had won the final twice only to allow the Rangers to get back into it. But ultimately, the Hoops had enough in the tank to win the game on penalties and secure the first trophy of the season, the Scottish League Cup. The treble is now well and truly on while it remains to be seen where Philippe Clement's side go from here.

Of course, the Rangers are going to take heart from the fact that they pushed Celtic to their limits. They certainly came a lot closer than they have in a long time.

Ultimately, they could not get the job done though and this might have been their best chance to do so. There were a number of Celtic players who were unremarkable on the day but the Rangers could not take advantage of that.

Of course, many Celtic fans will have been waiting to see how Chris Sutton reacted to the result and the former striker did not disappoint. Unsurprisingly, his tweet after the game had a cheeky dig at the Rangers.

Obviously, Celtic were not great on the day. But even on a bad day, they are capable of defeating the Rangers in a cup final. That deserves some praise in itself.

That being said, there is also a clear need for improvement. This Celtic squad might not be as strong as a lot of us had been thinking. There are areas in need of improvement. Left-back might be one of them. The midfield is also suddenly looking a bit shaky. And neither Kyogo nor Adam Idah looks at their best at the moment.

Celtic can deal with that later though. For now, it is time to celebrate winning another trophy, and against the Rangers.
