Let's just say that the way the Celtic board managed the summer transfer window, the club's recent performances and results should not come as a surprise. It was a long time coming, and finally, it looks like the Hoops have dropped a level or two and can no longer cruise past domestic opposition. They now find themselves five points behind Hearts in the Premiership and that gap could become eight, depending on how the upcoming game at Tynecastle Park goes.

While Brendan Rodgers might not be the main reason behind Celtic's struggles in recent times, he certainly has had his part to play. At no point this season have the Hoops looked convincing. They have been playing a boring brand of football for most of his second run at Parkhead. And now, the results have stopped coming as well.

It is understandable why a lot of fans are reluctant to see Rodgers leave. He is a proven winner and it is hard to get a managerial appointment right. Just ask the Rangers.

That being said, it might be the right step for all parties involved. And it is very clear who Chris Sutton would want to see in the Parkhead hot seat, if or when Rodgers departs.

As reported by 67 Hail Hail, Sutton said while speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live when asked if he would like to see Ange Postecoglou back at Celtic:

"I mean, would I like to see him back? Yeah, eventually, why not? I really enjoyed Angeball."

When further asked how quickly he would like to see Postecoglou return to Parkhead, Sutton said:

"Well, I think Brendan will leave at the end of the season – if [Postecoglou] just slots in next season, I would love to see Big Ange back. He’s respected at Celtic, the job he did. Brilliant, Angeball, what a brand of football."

It would be safe to say that Postecoglou was not exactly a success down in England. Of course, winning the Europa League with Tottenham Hotspur will go down in the history books. But other than that, he did not do much of note.

His recent spell at Nottingham Forest proved to be a disaster. Postecoglou will have a tough time getting a good offer in the Premier League after this. So, a return to Celtic might make a lot of sense, as it feels like he is the perfect fit for this football club.
