Celtic have been linked with a lot of players heading into the January transfer window. Christian Eriksen of Manchester United is one such player. But he is not the only one playing for a high-profile Premier League club whose name has been doing the rounds of the rumour mill lately. Carney Chukwuemeka's name falls under that category as well.
Chukwuemeka was signed by Chelsea from Aston Villa not too long ago. And he has shown sparks of quality during his time at Stamford Bridge.
But the problem that he faces is that the Blues have a ton of quality in that area of the pitch. Cole Palmer is one of the best in the world right now and simply cannot be dropped. Joao Felix and Christopher Nkunku are elite talents as well.
So, it is impossible for Chukwuemeka to get into the team right now. As a result, he has been linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge with Parkhead and Ibrox rumoured to be potential destinations.
Chelsea make Carney Chukwuemeka decision amid Celtic rumours
As reported by Football Insider, Chelsea are considering parting with Chukwuemeka on a permanent deal in the summer transfer window. That is why a potential loan deal is seen as something that would suit all parties.
Chukwuemeka spending time out on loan and impressing would make it easier for Chelsea to find a new home for him in the summer and also bring in a bigger transfer fee. At the same time, getting some game time is important for the youngster's development as well.
So, a loan move to Celtic would make sense. But do the Hoops really need Chukwuemeka right now? They have a lot of quality in the middle of the park already. Reo Hatate and Callum McGregor feel like nailed-on starters with Arne Engels, Paulo Bernardo and Luke McCowan vying for the third spot in midfield.
